Below are design case studies that I have done over the 4 years I attended at West Alabama. Each design or piece was made using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign or DaVinci Resolve.

Personal Logos

For this piece, I was tasked with making a unique design that shows who I am and my own personal brand. I chose to use my intials (D.J) to create a logo that feels simplistic and easy to understand. I feel it shows who I am as a person because I enjoy when things are simple and easy to understand.

Displacement Map

For this assignment, we were tasked with picking a flag, and taking a headshot of ourselves to then photoshop that flag onto our face to make it appear painted on our faces. I chose the South African flag so i could distort the flag to my face and be able to fully see the process when completing the assignment. It allowed me to see what needed to be changed and really just enjoy being able to create the image and assignment.

Footage Designs

For this assignment, we were tasked with making a design from the word “Footage” in the sense of it being similar to a nature documentary like National Geographic. My design focused more so on the lens from the camera instead of the whole camera itself. I felt this was able to portray different meanings and that these designs could be used for different topics instead of just a nature documentary.

T-Shirt Logos

For this design, I was tasked with making a T shirt design for a specific demographic of our own choosing. Being a track & field athlete, I chose to make a design catered toward something an athlete could wear as a casual shirt or a shirt to train in. The inspiration for the design came from the experiences I had from track meets and the crowd. One thing that is always heard from when the starting gun is fired, was someone  from the crowd or a group would scream the word “Move” and that became a staple for the design.

Trapped Assignment

For this assignment, we were tasked with photoshopping ourselves into a bottle and try to make it appear that either we were shrunk to fit in the bottle or it was a life size bottle. I chose to be in a seated position to try have an easier time shaping myself into the bottle.

Bike Logo Designs

For this assignment, we were tasked with making a design from a company that already existed and trying to make a logo that better fits the company and make a media plan from it as well. I selected Sweden By Bike which is a biking tourism company based in Sweden.

Sweden By Bike Mood Board Video

For this assignment, we were tasked with creating a video mood board that captured the mood or overall element of the company we are working with. I edited and put different clips into the video using Davinci Resolve to make the mood board. Click anywhere on the thumbnail and enjoy!

SBB Media Plan

For this assignment, we were tasked with making a design from a company that already existed and trying to make a logo that better fits the company and make a media plan from it as well. I selected Sweden By Bike which is a biking tourism company based in Sweden. Here is the LINK to see the full Media Plan book as well.

Fred's Media Plan

For this assignment, we were tasked with choosing a company that was considered bankrupt and making a media plan book towards the company as well. The LINK to the full book is here as well.

“Forever Red” Movie Posters.

For this assignment we were tasked with first finding compelling or attention grabbing images. Once you have found your images, create a movie poster and script to portray what the movie will be about with the title being “Forever Red”. I decided to use 4 different genres: Action, Horror, Psychological, and Romantic Comedy.

Action Script

A string of crimes and raging gang violence has left a young japanese mother distraught as her daughter is kidnapped right before her very eyes. She partners with the local police force but is forced to take matters into her own hands and hunt down the criminals to save her daughter, with a little help that is.

Psychological Script

A young boy spends majority of his life going in and out of insane asylums after he is abandoned by his parents. He is able to find comfort in a red teddy bear that was left behind in one of the rooms he is tossed in. After finally being freed one last time, he runs into a string of trouble after realizing the bear is pleading to take revenge on the world for turning its back on him, by leaving a bloody trail.

Romantic Comedy Script

A friendship is tested when one best friend is accepted into their dream college and the other is denied entry. Could one acceptance letter really diminish a childhood friendship and send each other 3000 miles apart?

Horror Script

A normal vacation for the Beverely’s seemed like a good idea at first. It quickly turns bad when their vacation home sends shivers down there spine, an old shed with the word “LEAVE” on it did not help the cause either. As if the paranormal occurences weren’t enough, there was one other person that was late arriving to the home.
